Facts

  • Independent human rights experts authorized by the UN said on Tuesday that the recent deaths of children due to malnourishment suggest that famine has spread throughout Gaza. Local health authorities said at least 33 children have died of malnutrition, mostly in the north.1
  • The experts also claimed that Israel is engaged in an 'intentional and targeted starvation campaign against the Palestinian people.' Israel said the statement was 'misinformation.'1
  • The UN has not officially declared a famine in Gaza. Israel accused the experts of 'supporting Hamas propaganda,' adding that Israel has increased its efforts to deliver humanitarian aid and that Hamas operatives 'intentionally steal and hide aid from civilians.'2
  • As obstacles in aid distribution persist, the US said the Gaza pier built by its military earlier this year will be deconstructed in the coming days. The pier delivered about 500 truckloads of aid during its deployment, equivalent to a single day of deliveries before the war began.3
  • Meanwhile, Israel ordered all residents of Gaza City, a population estimated at 250K, to evacuate as its forces pushed into the area. This is the second time all of Gaza City has been ordered to evacuate. The UN warned that central Gaza was overcrowded with Palestinians displaced from other areas of the strip.4
  • An Israeli airstrike on Tuesday killed about 30 people near a school in southern Gaza, mostly civilians sheltering at the facility, according to health authorities. Israel said the strike was 'under review,” adding that the target of the strike was a Hamas operative.5

Narratives

  • Pro-Palestine narrative, as provided by Middle East Eye. It should be clear after nine months of grinding brutality that Israel's true goal is to destroy Gaza and starve its people. Indeed, famine is an integral part of Israel's genocidal campaign. Children are quite literally starving to death in their mothers' arms, yet the US and international community have failed to end this travesty.
  • Pro-Israel narrative, as provided by Jerusalem Post. The UN and other Hamas enablers spread the lie that Israel has purposefully caused a famine in Gaza, but it's clear that no such famine ever happened. Recent studies show that there is more than enough food entering Gaza to feed its population, but Hamas attacks these aid convoys, steals the food for itself, and then blames Israel for the starvation.
