Facts

  • Ukraine's Army has claimed to have 'successfully hit' part of Russia's air defense system on the western coast of Crimea. However, the Russian Army-linked Rybar Telegram channel has stated that the two ATACMS missiles fired by Kyiv landed near Olenevka and that there was 'no serious damage.'1
  • Meanwhile, the Russian language Telegram channel Astra reported that 17 Russian soldiers had suffered injuries and five vehicles had been damaged in the strike that happened at around 3am local time on Monday.2
  • Later, Russia's defense ministry claimed that its air defense systems had successfully shot down eight Storm Shadow cruise missiles targeted at the Crimean Peninsula 'on Oct. 30, at around 13:00 [Moscow time, 10:00 GMT].'3
  • Elsewhere, Russian forces have launched a major offensive to capture Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine, but have reportedly faced strong Ukrainian resistance. Kyiv claims Moscow has lost over 6K soldiers and more than 400 armored vehicles and tanks so far.4
  • In other news, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has announced that the first US-made F-16 fighter jets the Netherlands is donating to Ukraine will arrive in Romania within two weeks, adding the Patriot missiles will be delivered shortly 'to aid Ukraine in the upcoming winter.'5
  • Also on Monday, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu reportedly accused NATO of covering up a build-up of forces in the Asia-Pacific region, alleging that the US was using climate change as a pretense for 'humanitarian interventions.'6

Narratives

  • Pro-Russia narrative, as provided by RT. Not only has the US-led war in Ukraine resulted in 90K Ukrainian casualties and the loss of thousands of military vehicles, but Washington is now trying to stretch its blanket of conflict and carnage into the Asia-Pacific. Moscow and Beijing have clearly stated their desire for mutually beneficial geopolitical agreements with the West. Yet, still the US continues to force its political will on the rest of the world. Russia is ready to negotiate a post-war settlement and 'co-existence' with Western countries, but they must first stop aiding Ukraine.
  • Pro-Ukraine narrative, as provided by Ukrinform. While Russia complains about America's goals in the Pacific, what Ukrainians actually care about is receiving enough military aid from allies to finally end this war. Though small amounts of long-range cluster bombs have prompted news headlines, what Kyiv needs are more short-range missiles to conclusively destroy the enemy. Not only does Ukraine need this, but most Americans on all sides support Ukraine's defeat of Russia.
