UK: 88 Deaths Linked to Canadian 'Poison Seller'

Facts

  • The UK's National Crime Agency has opened an investigation into potential links between Kenneth Law — a Canadian chef who allegedly sold substances online to assist with suicide — and 88 deaths in the country.1
  • The deaths allegedly linked to Law started in June 2021, when 29-year-old Tom Windsor died, and continued through at least January 2023, when deaf British TikTok star Imogen Nunn took her own life.2
  • The victims were among 272 people in the UK who have been identified as buying from Law over a two-year period. At this stage, however, the items purchased online haven't been confirmed as the direct cause of the deaths.3
  • Law is accused of counseling and aiding suicide by allegedly sending at least 1.2K packages containing a deadly substance to more than 40 countries.4
  • Law, detained in Toronto in May, is also being investigated in Australia, Italy, New Zealand, and the US. Assisting in suicide carries a maximum jail sentence of 14 years in Canada and the UK.5
  • On Friday, Law briefly appeared in court in Brampton, Ontario, before the hearing was postponed to Sept. 8.3

Narratives

  • Narrative A, as provided by CP24. Though Kenneth Law is now behind bars, the pro-suicide forum through which he found customers and sold his products remains active and easily accessible in Canada and the UK. Action must be taken to shut it down as well before anyone else commits online assisted suicide.
  • Narrative B, as provided by Times. Kenneth Law is a psychopath with a God complex who victimized young people with suicidal tendencies in the garb of offering them an escape. It's hard to understand how the police took so long to realize his potential role in the deaths despite him having been repeatedly featured in suicide investigations since 2021.
