Facts

  • Republican candidate former Pres. Donald Trump spoke from a garbage truck and wore an orange safety vest in Green Bay, Wis., on Wednesday in reference to comments Pres. Joe Biden made during a video call on Tuesday night.[1][2]
  • Biden earlier said that 'the only garbage [he] see[s] floating out there is his supporter's,' forcing the White House to claim that he referred only to Tony Hinchcliffe, a comedian who described Puerto Rico as an 'island of garbage' at a Trump rally, rather than supporters of the Republican candidate.[3][4]
  • Trump said earlier at a rally in North Carolina that these remarks — which he called a 'disgrace' — were worse than those made by then-Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016 describing half of his supporters as 'deplorables.'[5]
  • When asked to comment on the matter, Democratic nominee Vice Pres. Kamala Harris stated that she 'strongly disagree[d] with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,' and pledged to be a president for 'all Americans.'[6][7]
  • Meanwhile, the Harris campaign criticized Trump's recent claim during his Wednesday speech in Wisconsin that he was to protect women 'whether the women like it or not' when discussing immigration and foreign countries.[8]
  • As of Thursday, Harris leads Trump by 1.3 points nationally, 48.0% to 46.7%, in FiveThirtyEight's polling average, but Trump is slightly more favored to win the White House, 51% to 48%.[9]

Narratives

  • Republican narrative, as provided by Trendingpoliticsnews and New York Post. Trump's garbage truck stunt was the perfect troll in response to Biden and his party's continued snobbery towards hardworking Americans who are fed up with the woke status quo. While the White House may try and pretend Pres. Biden did not mean what he said, the Democratic Party's unpatriotic and divisive rhetoric has been heard loud and clear by the American people.
  • Democratic narrative, as provided by MSNBC and Intelligencer. In peak hypocrisy, Republicans who adamantly defended Hinchliffe's distasteful Puerto Rico comments are the first to jump on and twist Pres. Biden's words. While the President's remarks may well have been clumsy, they are nothing compared to the dangerous rhetoric Trump and his MAGA movement continue to spew against their fellow Americans when it suits them to do so.
