Facts

  • Former Trump legal advisor Jenna Ellis pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting false statements and writings on Tuesday morning, becoming the fourth co-defendant in the Georgia 2020 election case to accept a plea agreement with Fulton County prosecutors.1
  • In exchange for avoiding a jail term, she agreed to a five-year probation sentence that includes a $5K restitution, 100 hours of community service, and a letter of apology to Georgia's residents — a deal similar to that struck with fellow Trump lawyer, Kenneth Chesebro, last week.2
  • The 38-year-old will also have to fully cooperate with prosecutors and testify against co-defendants in the election interference case. Until the conclusion of all these ongoing cases, she isn't allowed to post anything about her own case on social media.3
  • Hired in 2019 to the Trump campaign, Ellis became one of the faces of his post-election legal team along with Sidney Powell — who pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor charges last week for her role in the alleged conspiracy to overturn the 2020 presidential results — and Rudy Giuliani.4
  • Ever since she was charged in August with one count of racketeering and one count of soliciting Georgia public officers to violate their oaths of office, Ellis has criticized the former president for not helping those indicted in Fulton County to pay their legal bills.5
  • Trump has denied all wrongdoing, claiming that Fulton District Attorney General Fani Willis (D) is carrying out a political witch hunt. A trial date has yet to be set for the 15 co-defendants who have pleaded not guilty.6

Narratives

  • Democratic narrative, as provided by Salon. Jenna Ellis has followed in the failed footsteps of her fellow attorneys Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro, becoming the fourth co-defendant in the Georgia election interference case to flip against Trump and acknowledge that the Big Lie about the 2020 elections was indeed a lie. As the dominoes keep falling, the former president is increasingly finding himself against the wall.
  • Pro-Trump narrative, as provided by Daily Caller. It has become crystal clear that the playbook of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was to overcharge co-defendants in the case against Trump only to offer them very favorable last-minute plea deals and secure witnesses against her only real target. The justice system doesn't care about trying to hide that the Georgia election case is part of a lawfare campaign against the former president.
