Facts

  • According to recently presented research, Semaglutide, a key ingredient of weight-loss drugs like Wegovy and Ozempic, has been found to slow down aging and curb the causes of many chronic diseases[1]
  • Used to cut body inflammation, semaglutide could also potentially treat conditions related to inflammation including Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, cancer, and arthritis.[2]
  • The Journal of the American College of Cardiology has reportedly published these results showing semaglutide lowering the rate of death from all causes.[3]
  • The study tracked 17,604 overweight or obese people aged 45 and above across more than three years. They had confirmed cardiovascular diseases but not diabetes.[4]
  • Volunteers who were administered 2.4 mg of semaglutide also reportedly had a 2.6% chance of dying of COVID while the chances of those on the placebo were 3.1%.[5]
  • Semaglutide also reportedly reduced 'treatment-resistant' blood pressure issues, apparently helping a third of those whose medication had been ineffective.[1]

Narratives

  • Narrative A, as provided by New York Times. Semaglutide is revolutionizing healthcare beyond just weight loss. It represents a significant leap in medical science, offering hope for millions, addressing obesity and its related comorbidities, and potentially reshaping our approach to preventive care. It may herald a new era in healthcare, tackling multiple health concerns with a single, powerful tool.
  • Narrative B, as provided by Guardian. Semaglutide-based medication is now being used indiscriminately for weight loss, often without proper medical supervision. This raises concerns about potential side effects, including nausea, gallbladder issues, and even kidney damage. Long-term health consequences remain unknown and appropriate caution is warranted for consumers and patients.
