Serbia: Policeman Shot With Crossbow at Israeli Embassy
Facts
- Miloš Jevremović, a 34-year-old police officer, was shot in the neck with a crossbow in a suspected terror attack at the Israeli embassy in Belgrade on Saturday. He is reportedly in stable condition after undergoing surgery.1
- Despite sustaining injuries, Jevremović could return fire and shoot dead the assailant — 25-year-old Miloš Žujović, a Serbian, who went by the name Salahudin after his conversion to Islam.2
- According to Serbia's Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, a synagogue in Belgrade could have been the initial target, but Žujović moved to the embassy due to heavy police presence around the Jewish house of worship.3
- Even as the investigation continues, two men — suspected of belonging to the conservative Wahhabi branch of Islam — have been detained, while dozens of people were questioned in connection to the attack under investigation.4
- Since the Israel-Hamas war began in Gaza last October, Israeli institutions around the world have been on high alert for attacks and protests.5
- Last month, protesters torched the Israeli embassy in Mexico, while the Israeli embassy in the Netherlands was firebombed in March. In January, a suspected explosive device was found near the Israeli embassy in Sweden.6

Narratives
- Pro-Israel narrative, as provided by Jerusalem Post. Fortunately, the policeman suffered no life-threatening injuries and thwarted this heinous terrorist attack targeting both the government of Serbia and Israelis, which was very likely on behalf of militant Sunni Wahhabi extremists. It's outrageous that such acts continue to be carried out against Israel and its allies.
- Pro-Palestine narrative, as provided by The New Arab. This heinous assault has nothing to do with Islam, as it goes against all teachings of the Muslim religion. If anything, what triggered a misguided individual to attack a police officer in his guard booth outside the Israeli embassy in Belgrade is Israel's genocidal campaign in Gaza — which is backed by Serbia.
