Facts

  • Rapper and music mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs will soon face allegations of sexual misconduct from a further 120 accusers, a lawyer representing the claimants said on Tuesday.[1]
  • Lawyer Tony Buzbee said that 60 of the alleged victims were male and that 60 were female, adding that 25 were minors at the time of the alleged offenses. He said that he expects lawsuits to be filed in a number of jurisdictions around the US in the next 30 days.[1][2]
  • This comes after Combs, already facing at least another nine civil suits for alleged rape and sexual abuse, was arrested in New York and charged with racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution last month. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.[3]
  • Erica Wolff, a lawyer for Combs, said that the rapper 'cannot address every meritless allegation in what has become a reckless media circus,' and that he 'emphatically and categorically denies as false and defamatory any claim that he sexually abused anyone, including minors.'[2]
  • On Monday, Combs — who is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn — filed a notice of appeal with the Southern District of New York in an attempt to seek bail before his trial on federal charges begins. Two such previous attempts have already been rejected.[4][5]
  • Combs is next scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 9.[4]

Narratives

  • Narrative A, as provided by NBC. Lawyers for Combs' alleged victims have been contacted by thousands of people and have collected vast amounts of evidence. Because of the scale and seriousness of the alleged crimes, lawyers are moving slowly but meticulously to ensure that justice is dealt.
  • Narrative B, as provided by TMZ. Despite all Combs is up against, he remains positive and remains focused on his defense. He's confident he will be able to clear his name of these allegations. Especially in a sensitive case like this one, Combs should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
