- The law, which will ban countries that allow a 'change of sex by medical intervention, including with the use of medicine,' is expected to be implemented after it passes two more readings and the upper chamber and is signed by Pres. Vladimir Putin.[2][3]
- According to the State Duma, the banned countries will include NATO member states, with Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin reported last week as saying Austria, Australia, and Argentina will also be included.[3][4]
- This comes as Russia, which previously banned US nationals from adopting its children in 2012, has introduced a series of LGBTQ+ measures, including against what it calls 'LGBT propaganda.'[1]
