Russia Issues Arrest Warrant for Alexei Navalny's Widow

A Moscow court on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant for Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny, for participating in an 'extremist' community.¹
The court ordered Navalnaya — who has lived in self-exile since 2021 and has resided in Germany since Navalny's death in February — to be put into custody for two months.²
Navalnaya has been placed on Russia's wanted list, and her two-month detention will enter into force as soon as she sets foot in the country.³
Responding to her warrant, Navalnaya told her supporters to focus on their 'main' goal, which she said was to send Russian Pres. Vladimir Putin to the 'same two-by-three metre cell' in which Navalny died.⁴
Navalny, Putin's most vocal opponent, had been serving 19 years on extremism charges before he died of what officials say were natural causes in an Arctic Circle jail.⁵
In 2021, a Russian court outlawed Navalny's Anti-Corruption Foundation on the grounds that it was 'extremist' and banned his supporters from running for public office.⁶

The arrest warrant against her is an arrest warrant against the desire for freedom and democracy. However, it will not stop Navalnaya from continuing Navalny's fight, exposing the Russian government's corruption, and creating a free Russia of the future.

Navalnaya was charged under Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which punishes members of an extremist organization with up to six years imprisonment. She has openly participated in outlawed extremist structures founded by her late husband and has been evading law enforcement authorities. The West must stop spreading lies and glorifying Russian anti-nationals.
