Facts
- Nathan Wade, who Fulton County District Attorney General Fani Willis appointed as special prosecutor in Trump's election interference case in Georgia, paid for trips with Willis to Miami, Aruba, and Napa Valley in 2022 and 2023, according to a court motion filed on Friday on behalf of Joycelyn Wade in her divorce case against him.1
- Meanwhile, Fulton County Commissioner Bob Ellis asked Willis to provide his audit committee with the contracts or services agreements made with special prosecutors in the case by Feb. 2 as part of an ongoing inquiry into claims she misused county funds for her own benefit.2
- This comes as Willis claimed in a court filing on Thursday that Joycelyn was conspiring with interested parties in the election racketeering case to use the divorce proceedings to obstruct and interfere with the criminal prosecution as well as to harass Willis and damage her reputation.3
- Allegations of an inappropriate affair between Willis and Wade first surfaced on Jan. 8, as Trump co-defendant Michael Roman claimed in a court filing that, on top of being unqualified to lead the case, the Atlanta lawyer used money he received from Willis' office to fund romantic trips with her.4
- Wade has reportedly received over $650K since January 2022, with Willis now facing claims that she misled county officials to get additional funds to pay him despite allegedly never obtaining the legally required approval from the county to hire Wade in the first place.5
- On Saturday, Norm Eisen — a key Fani Willis ally — told reporters that though there's no legal reason that special prosecutor Nathan Wade should be removed under Georgia law, he should step down to avoid further controversies and delays in the election interference case.6

Narratives
- Pro-Trump narrative, as provided by PJ Media. That the Fulton County election interference case was merely a desperate attempt to prevent Trump from returning to the White House this year was crystal clear from day one. So it isn't surprising that Fani Willis has appointed her alleged lover as special prosecutor, paying too much for his low qualifications, as no serious attorney would accept to take part in this circus.
- Anti-Trump narrative, as provided by The Hill. Though Wade has a good record and, so far, seems to have done a pretty decent job as special prosecutor in the Georgia Trump case, it was a mistake to hire him given that his lack of experience and potential relationship with Willis could jeopardize one of the strongest cases against Trump. Nathan must resign as soon as possible so as to prevent Trump's legal team from achieving its goal of delaying this case.
