Facts

  • Anonymous sources on the campaign of US Vice Pres. Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, have reported that the campaign is bracing for a loss in at least one of the so-called 'Blue Wall' states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.[1][2]
  • Harris' campaign has reportedly sought to push for victories in Nevada and North Carolina just in case she loses one of the 'Blue Wall' states. However, polls currently show Harris either tied or losing in those states.[1]
  • Democrats won the 'Blue Wall' states from 1992-2012 before Republican Donald Trump won them in 2016. Democrat Joe Biden won them in 2020, but recent RealClearPolitics polling averages show Trump slightly ahead in all three.[2]
  • Harris has a path to victory for the necessary 270 electoral votes if she takes the Blue Wall states and the electoral vote from Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District. Pennsylvania, with 19 electoral votes, has been the primary focus of both candidates.[3]
  • According to a recent Redfield and Wilton survey, Trump is leading in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina, which would give him a victory should he win one of the Blue Wall states.[4]
  • This comes as Harris has made several campaign stops with former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) in Detroit and Milwaukee, while Trump visited North Carolina. Former US Pres. Barack Obama is expected to join Harris in Georgia on Thursday.[5][6]

Narratives

  • Republican narrative, as provided by The Telegraph. You don't need anonymous reports from campaign sources to know the Democrats are terrified of losing the 'Blue Wall' states. Harris is losing steam so quickly in those states that other Democratic candidates are putting up ads saying they support Trump's policies. It seems Harris is not only losing the country but her party too.
  • Democratic narrative, as provided by CNN. Recent polls show that this race is close, which puts Harris' grassroots campaign in a strong position. As Trump continues alienating voters with his anti-democracy rhetoric, and Harris continues to meet with swing state voters, the Democratic nominee is on a path toward winning women, minorities, and the Electoral College.
