Infowars Founder Testifies in Sandy Hook Defamation Trial

On Thursday, Infowars founder Alex Jones took the stand at his defamation trial in Connecticut over his false claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre, which killed 20 children and six educators, was a hoax. His comments have since been retracted.
Jones testified that he "legitimately thought" the shooting "might have been staged" and that he won't "apologize for it."
When asked if calling the parents of the victims "liars" is "a horrible thing to say," Jones — who was reportedly warned by Judge Barbara Bellis against making political statements — replied, "in the context, it could be, yes."
The six-member jury is now deciding how much Jones and Free Speech Systems, Infowar's parent company, should pay the 15 plaintiffs — families of the victims — for defamation and inflicting emotional distress.
Jones had already been found liable for defamation in Connecticut and Texas by default last year, after he repeatedly failed to turn over court-ordered documents to lawyers last year. Meanwhile, in August, he was ordered to pay almost $50M in a defamation trial in Texas.

While the ongoing legal battles are a step in the right direction to holding him accountable, unfortunately, the court-ordered payments likely won't amount to anything more than a meagre business expense.
