Hezbollah Rockets Kill 7 in Northern Israel
Facts
- A barrage of rockets fired by Lebanon's Hezbollah in northern Israel's Metula and Haifa on Thursday killed seven people, including four foreign nationals.[1]
- At least 39 civilians have been killed in northern Israel since last October, while 62 Israeli soldiers lost their lives last month alone. In Lebanon, Israeli strikes killed over 2.8K people, including Hezbollah fighters and medics.[1][2][3]
- As fighting rages in Lebanon and Gaza, Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant and Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer recently met with senior US officials to discuss the situation, including security arrangements for Lebanon and the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza.[4]
- Though Hezbollah has said it's open to a deal to end the conflict, it stated that 'the basis for any negotiations is a cease-fire first.' However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated that Israel has the 'ability and determination to enforce the agreement.'[5]
- Meanwhile, a senior Hamas official said on Thursday that the group wouldn't accept a temporary cease-fire, reiterating its demands for a permanent end to the war, the return of displaced people, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.[6]
- This comes after Axios reported that CIA Director Bill Burns had suggested a month-long pause in fighting in exchange for Hamas releasing eight Israeli hostages and Israel releasing dozens of Palestinian prisoners.[7][8]

Narratives
- Pro-establishment narrative, as provided by New York Times. Though the situation in the region continues to escalate, the US has stood firm in its role as a mediator. Israel has every right to respond to the daily terror attacks it has seen since Oct. 7. However, it's in no one's interest for tensions to explode into a wider regional war. The US will continue to work toward regional stability.
- Pro-Israel narrative, as provided by Jerusalem Post. By decimating Hezbollah's leadership and destroying the border terrorist infrastructure from which it planned to launch an Oct. 7-style attack on northern Israel, Israel has largely achieved its military goals in Lebanon. Nonetheless, it will ensure that a diplomatic solution to end the conflict is rigorously enforced without compromising its security.
- Pro-Palestine narrative, as provided by Middle East Eye. These 'cease-fire' talks are yet another ruse cooked up by the Americans to provide Israel with diplomatic cover to continue its genocide in Gaza and its destruction of Lebanon. It's quite clear that Israel's political and military leadership have decided that a drawn-out regional war is in its best interest. Israel will continue slaughtering innocents across the Middle East, all bankrolled by the US.
- Narrative D, as provided by Almayadeen. Hezbollah and Lebanon have experienced immense suffering for supporting Palestine against Israel's genocidal actions, yet the group will continue its noble fight. Hezbollah is ready and able to defend Lebanon from Israeli aggression, and its attacks will end when Israel withdraws from Gaza.
