Facts

  • It has been announced that Democratic Party ticket Vice Pres. Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will take part in their first formal interview since the beginning of their campaign this Thursday at 9 pm ET on CNN.[1]
  • Vice Pres. Harris has not taken part in a formal interview or press conference since Pres. Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 Presidential Election nearly six weeks ago.[2][3]
  • While the vice president appeared in three interviews by social media content creators during the Democratic National Convention (DNC), the Harris campaign committed to taking part in a formal interview with a national media outlet before the end of August.[4][5]
  • The interview will be held by Dana Bash, who co-moderated CNN's June 27 debate between Pres. Joe Biden and former Pres. Donald Trump alongside Jake Tapper, and will take place in Georgia as Harris takes part in a bus tour of the state.[6][7]
  • According to Project 538's polling average, as of Aug. 27, Harris (47.1%) currently leads Trump (43.6%) by 3.5 points, after the Republican nominee had led Biden by over three points before his withdrawal.[8][9]

Narratives

  • Democratic narrative, as provided by MSNBC and Axios. While Harris has proven she has the energy and vibe necessary to uplift America's spirit, now is the time for the vice president to also show the nation that she is a serious politician who can handle the pressure when it counts. Given the publicity surrounding Harris's lack of interaction with legacy news as Democrats continue to focus on the Gen Z vote via social media, it is pivotal that the party nominee passes this test if her campaign is to continue the momentum it has so successfully accumulated so far.
  • Republican narrative, as provided by New York Post. Harris's choice of interview is only a superficial attempt to fulfill her public duty to face professional media scrutiny. CNN is nothing more than a propaganda wing of the Democratic Party, and with Waltz tasked with making sure the vice president is sufficiently coddled, there is little chance that America will see anything more than another pre-rehearsed media stunt. This attempt to hide her lack of experience and radical agenda from the American public will backfire spectacularly.
