Ex-Aide Sues Rudy Giuliani Alleging Sexual Assault

Facts

  • On Monday, Rudy Giuliani — the formerly both New York City mayor and Donald Trump's personal lawyer — was sued for $10M by Noelle Dunphy over allegations of sexual assault, harassment, wage theft, and other offenses.1
  • A former associate of Giuliani, Dunphy claims in her lawsuit that after hiring her in 2019, he made it clear that satisfying his sexual demands was an "absolute requirement of her employment,” often coercing her into sex.2
  • In addition, Dunphy claims Giuliani frequently took Viagra and exposed himself to her, "often demanded that she work naked, in a bikini, or in short shorts with an American flag on them that he bought for her” in addition to other lewd acts.3
  • Dunphy is also suing Giuliani for wage theft, claiming he refused to pay her a promised salary of $1M per year to be his director of business development and public relations consultant and still owes her nearly $2M in back pay.4
  • Though Dunphy has produced recordings of conversations with Giuliani — which included sexual comments, demands for sex, as well as racist, sexist, and anti semitic remarks — his spokesperson said the former mayor "vehemently and completely denies the allegations," calling the lawsuit "an attempt at extortion."5
  • This comes after Trump was found liable for sexually abusing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll earlier this month, with a Manhattan jury awarding her $5M in damages and the former US president filing a notice of appeal.6

Narratives

  • Left narrative, as provided by Rolling Stone. While the investigation must first play out, the recordings and text screenshots are evidence enough to question Rudy Giuliani, get to the bottom of the allegations, and ensure justice. Giuliani's lies and heinous actions must catch up to him.
  • Right narrative, as provided by Intelligencer. Dunphy's story lacks credibility as there are no witnesses or evidence to show Giuliani raped or sexually assaulted her. There are many nuances to this story, and it's just the latest baseless claim to smear Donald Trump and those close to him.
